KCST and Huawei open first 5G Lab in Kuwait

Kuwait College of Science and Technology (KCST) hosted the first Huawei 5G Lab and 5G Star simulation training system in Kuwait as part of the newly launched Huawei ICT Academy at KCST.

The launch ceremony was held at the KCST campus in the presence of Shunli Wang, Vice President of Huawei Middle East; Rico Lin, CEO of Huawei Kuwait; Prof Khaled Al Begain, President of KCST; Prof Ali Chamka, Dean of Faculty of Engineering; Dr Abolfazl Niya, Head of Electronics & Communications Department and other senior officials.

The KCST partnership is the latest initiative by Huawei to develop Kuwait's talent ecosystem. The Academy's training will be delivered through master classes, seminars, industry trips, and ICT competitions. Students will receive special discounts for Huawei certification exams and issued certificates upon graduation. The industry-standard ICT training and certification will boost students' career opportunities, and Huawei has pledged to support graduates with work placement.

The 5G Star platform delivers an industry-standard simulation training program based on Huawei 5G base stations. Students will learn in an immersive environment, using virtual reality (VR) to facilitate complex technology learning in a classroom setting.

The Huawei ICT Academy is a global school-enterprise partnership program led by Huawei to empower college and university students worldwide to pursue careers in the ICT realm.

"Huawei is committed to partnerships that nurture a highly-skilled and experienced workforce and that can help Kuwait realize the goals of its Vision 2035. By leveraging collaborations between the public and private sectors, we can foster the future digital leaders of the 'New Kuwait'. We will continue to engage with KCST at the 5G Lab, 5G Star, and Huawei ICT Academy to guarantee a rich digital talent pipeline for Kuwait and the wider Middle East."
Shunli Wang, Vice President of Huawei Middle East

The 5G Lab offers students insights into the latest developments in 5G. Participants will also benefit from links with industry and knowledge-sharing in real-world ICT scenarios.

KSF Space Foundation and Kuwait College of Science and Technology ( KCST) launch a Smallsat via High-Altitude Balloon

The KSF Space Foundation was founded to enable cost-efficient access to LEO with zero-environmental impact. The foundation encourages universities to develop R&D missions using Smallsats. In June 2021, KSF Space Foundation announced that the state of Kuwait would be the first in GCC and North Africa to send a CubeSat to near space to measure climate change and ultraviolet radiation.

KCST CubeSat

KCST was the lead across all GCC and North Africa universities for this experiment. The project was locally managed by the KSF Space officer in Kuwait, Eng. Loai Amous, along with the KSF Space Team members. Our students received training and qualified to assemble the fully functional ready-to-fly KCST CubeSat weighing 426 grams.

CubeSat Launch

In March 2022, KCST CubeSat was launched into space from Spain on a space box platform. A special Monatomic gas Helium balloon used for space missions was chosen for the launch.

Mission Successful

Two cameras captured the mission; one captured the horizon, and the other was focused on the space balloon and the UV umbrella and parachute towards the space. This camera captured the moment of the explosion of the space balloon. The KSF Space mission team conveyed the message that during data processing and measuring the performance of the electronic instruments, KCST CubeSat was ‘great’ without any malfunctions caused by UV and radiation in space, and all instruments were healthy enough to go for another mission!

Designing Organization Design

Author: Professor Rodrigo Magalhaes
Dean of Business Management

As a topic, organization design is poorly understood. While it is featured in most management books as a chapter dedicated to organizational structures, it is unclear whether organization design is a one-off event or an ongoing process. Thus, it has traditionally been understood to be the same as an organizational configuration, with neat lines of communication and distribution of responsibilities following pre-set typologies. Yet what can be said to constitute organizational structure in this first half of the 21st century?

Biomedical Signals Based Computer - Aided Diagnosis for Neurological Disorders

Editor: Dr. M Murugappan
Associate Professor, Department of Electronics & Communications Engineering

Biomedical signals provide unprecedented insight into abnormal or anomalous neurological conditions. The computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) system plays a key role in detecting neurological abnormalities and improving diagnosis and treatment consistency in medicine. This book covers different aspects of biomedical signals-based systems used in the automatic detection/identification of neurological disorders.
